LINCOLN, Neb. – (May 4, 2026) – Visit Nebraska and its industry partners are celebrating National Travel & Tourism Week May 3-9. This week honors the vital role and the economic impact the travel industry has in the nation's success.

In 2025, tourism was once again one of Nebraska's most important economic drivers, accounting for:

∙ $4.6 billion in visitor spending
∙ More than 41,000 jobs supported statewide
∙ Over $320 million generated in state and local tax revenue

“Travel is a powerful driver for Nebraska communities,” said Jenn Gjerde, Executive Director of Visit Nebraska. “It supports local jobs, fuels small businesses and brings new energy into towns across the state. That impact doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from the work we do every day to promote Nebraska as a travel destination, telling our story, showing up in key markets and giving people a reason to choose us. National Travel & Tourism Week is a chance to recognize the people and places across the state who make Nebraska a destination worth exploring.”

As part of this week’s festivities, Visit Nebraska will honor recipients with Outstanding Frontline Employee awards. These awards recognize individuals who go above and beyond while interacting with travelers and locals. Honorees are nominated by local communities and tourism partners and reflect the pride and hospitality that define Nebraska.

Executive Director Jenn Gjerde will also speak at the following National Travel & Tourism Week engagements:

Tuesday, May 5

12 p.m. CT

Younes Conference Center North, Kearney

Wednesday, May 6

12 p.m. CT

Venue 304, North Platte
